Hair transplant
FUT and FUE are very similar. The difference will be covered at the bottom.
Regrowth
Hair doesn’t regrow after a hair transplant operation. Hair on your donor area is moved to the recipient area to cover the bald spot. In simple words it's the redistribution of hair. The operation bears a striking resemblance to a combover where hair is combed forward or sideways to cover a bald spot. Hair transplant is significantly invasive. Hair grown on your bald spot needs time to fully camouflage into existing hair. The surgeon will artistically design your hairline to give it an illusion of regrowth. Hairline will not be advanced enough nor will the hair density be adequate but at least it will be slightly better. Your forehead will still look large relative to your previous hair as a youth because there isn’t hair in the donor area.
In fact you will have a little less hair follicle count because some follicles will be unusable in the operation. Hair grafts typically have a survival rate of 90-100% depending on the surgeon. Certain percentage of the extracted hair will be useless. Transplanted hair can fall out though it is rare. Bleeding will occur if hair graft falls. After 4 months transplanted hair will fall out but it will grow again.
Ongoing treatment commitment
It's not a fire and forget operation. The balding process will continue and you may need another procedure done unless you follow preventative measures. The existing hair sensitive DHT can fall out leaving you with an abnormal male pattern baldness therefore it is vital you follow essential regimen. On the contrary you are locked into such a regimen. Hair regimen must be followed meticulously to keep every strand of hair.
Complications
There is a limited number of hair in the donor hair to cover your whole bald spot. If the donor hair area is depleted you can’t get another operation and may need to also cover your overharvesting donor area. The probability of hair transplants failing is higher with inexperienced surgeons. You will have to learn about hair transplants otherwise you may fall prey to a botched operation. If donor graft heals above surrounding skin, small bumps known as cobblestone will form which are visible to the naked eye. If hair loss is still progressing after treatment you’ll have to take medication which will add finasteride complications.
Reversible
Hair transplant reversal is not a viable option. Each hair transplant procedure loses some grafts. The exact position of transplanted hair is not known. You will pay money again.
Cost
Hair transplants cost between £1000 to £20,000 depending on your hair loss and the surgeon’s skill. Hair transplants don't come with supplements so additional payments must be made. You may need to take time off work.
Difference
FUT procedures will cut a strip of skin containing hair from the back of you. The skin will be divided into individual follicular units that will be used for hair transplantation. You'll have a scar on the back of your head. You can’t cut your hair short otherwise the scar will be visible.
FUE procedures will cut out individual hair follicles. These hair follicles will be transplanted into the bald spot. There will be lots of tiny scars but not visible. FUE cost slightly more
